Sample Spaces: Lists, Tables & Tree Diagrams — Easy Worksheet 1

Grade 7 · MathSheets    Name: ____________________   Date: __________

Find the sample space (all the possible outcomes), then answer the question. Write probabilities as fractions in simplest form.

How to solve

The sample space is the list of every possible outcome. When one step has 2 outcomes and the next has 6, there are 2 × 6 = 12 outcomes in all — a tree diagram shows each branch. If all outcomes are equally likely, probability = (number of outcomes in the event) ÷ (number of outcomes in the sample space).

Example

You spin a spinner with 5 equal sections and then pick a card from 4 cards numbered 1 to 4. How many outcomes are in the sample space?

Answer: 20
