Decimal Word Problems — Easy Worksheet 1

Grade 5 · MathSheets    Name: ____________________   Date: __________

Read each story, decide which operation to use, and solve. Write just the number (no units or $ sign needed).

How to solve

Find the key words: "in all" or "altogether" means add, "how much more" or "left" means subtract, "each" with a total means multiply, and "shared equally" or "how many groups" means divide. Line up the decimal points to add or subtract. To multiply, multiply as whole numbers, then count the decimal places in both numbers: 2.5 × 1.2 → 25 × 12 = 300, two places → 3.00 = 3. To divide by a decimal, move both decimal points the same way: 3 ÷ 0.25 = 300 ÷ 25 = 12.
