Subtracting Fractions with Like Denominators — Easy Worksheet 1

Grade 4 · MathSheets    Name: ____________________   Date: __________

Subtract. Write each answer in lowest terms; write an answer greater than 1 as a mixed number.

How to solve

When the denominators are the same, subtract the numerators and keep the denominator: 56 − 26 = 36. Then simplify: 36 = 12. If the answer is more than 1, write a mixed number: 114 − 24 = 94 = 2 14. To take a fraction from a whole number, write the whole number as a fraction with the same denominator: 2 − 38 = 168 − 38 = 138 = 1 58.
