Value of a Digit in 3-Digit Numbers — Easy Worksheet 1

Grade 2 · MathSheets    Name: ____________________   Date: __________

Answer each place value question.

How to solve

Each digit in a 3-digit number has a place: hundreds, tens or ones. In 543 the 5 is in the hundreds place, the 4 is in the tens place and the 3 is in the ones place. The value of a digit is the digit times its place: the 4 in 543 means 4 tens, so its value is 40. Expanded form adds up the values: 543 = 500 + 40 + 3.
